About This Tool

How does this car mileage calculator work?
Our calculator uses your car’s engine displacement (in cc), number of cylinders, fuel type, transmission type, and vehicle category as the base inputs. It then applies real-world correction factors for your AC usage, passenger load, driving condition (city/mixed/highway), traffic level, road quality, tyre condition, and engine maintenance status โ€” to give you a realistic estimate of how many kilometres per litre (km/l) or km/kg (for CNG) your car is likely to achieve.

Why is my actual mileage different from ARAI figures?
ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) tests cars under controlled laboratory conditions. Real-world mileage is almost always 15โ€“25% lower due to factors like city traffic, air conditioning usage, driver behaviour, tyre pressure, and road quality. This tool is designed to estimate real-world mileage โ€” not the lab number on the brochure.

Which cars get the best mileage in India?
Diesel hatchbacks and compact sedans with 1000โ€“1500 cc engines typically deliver the best fuel efficiency โ€” often 18โ€“25 km/l on highways. Petrol cars in the 800โ€“1200 cc range are close behind at 15โ€“22 km/l. CNG cars offer the lowest per-km running cost at 18โ€“30 km/kg, making them ideal for high-mileage city driving.

How can I improve my car’s mileage?
The biggest gains come from driving discipline โ€” smooth acceleration, early braking anticipation, and maintaining 60โ€“80 km/h on highways. Beyond that, keeping tyre pressure at the recommended level, replacing the air filter on schedule, using the right engine oil grade, and getting regular servicing can recover 10โ€“20% of lost mileage on older cars.

Disclaimer: Mileage estimates are indicative and based on typical real-world correction models. Actual fuel efficiency may vary depending on your specific vehicle variant, driving habits, fuel quality, and local road conditions. Always refer to your owner’s manual and ARAI ratings for official figures.
